Calming my Karma

At age 22 I was selling advertising for a magazine
company. I think that it was great
training for the world of internet marketing. But it
was deadly boring.

I was making 200-300 calls a day hoping that one of
them would convert to a sale which would bring me in
around $2-3000. When one came in, it was great, but
I would go for weeks on end with no activity and in
one case I actually went for months with no sales at
all.

The problem when you have a slump, is that it is
extremely difficult to get out of it. The reason
being that your confidence becomes mashed and you
find it hard to remember what it was that made you
seem like Golden-Mouth when you were doing well.

But some of the lessons I learnt were:

1. Always smile when you are on the phone.

It’s something that I also learnt from the Dale Carnegie
course. Trust me, it makes a massive difference. But
not only when you are selling. Even when you are
speaking to a friend of family member on the phone.
It creates incredible results.

2. Always Be Closing.

Or…ABC for short. Whenever you are doing in anything
to ultimately make a sale, you should always be thinking
about the direction that you are going in and how you
can best close that sale. There is a wonderful line
in a film called Boiler Room. The main character is
trying to sell shares and equities on the phone. His
manager tells him that he should see every call as a
challenge or a battle. Only one person is going to win
and it can either be him or the person on the other end.
If you want to win in life, then you need to make sure
that you are better than the other person.

This could be a boss, a customer or even a friend.
Obviously, in personal relationships, you should be
careful about thinking this way as there is supposed
to be a feeling of love there which may be obstructed
by this.

3. Never give up

Or as David Vallieres says “Succeed Through Failure”.
If you look as life as one great puzzle where you can
only succeed through learning from failures, then life
suddenly becomes far easier to handle.

I have had great set-backs in life to the point where
I have literally wanted to throw everything in and run
off to a desert island. But I haven’t and today I like
to think that I enjoy a high amount of success.

Marketing on the internet is like a journey to me. Some
things explode beyond reason whereas other thing fail
also for no explicable reason.

You can have the perfect plan, but at the end of the day
it is whether the marketplace also things that it is the
perfect plan that will make the difference.

I have just come out of my most successful product launch
ever. Project Archimedes ( http://www.projectarchimedes.com )
has had people buzzing all over the internet. Refunds
have also been very few due to the sheer volume and quality
of the information that I supplied.

Am I proud of myself?

Hell yeah…

I am sitting here with a massive smile on my face having
accomplished something which I would have never thought
possible a few years ago.

For each of us our journey is different and for each
of us it is something else that will make that journey
different.

Without knowing a lot more about you, I can’t tell you
what that is for you, but I am going to tell you some
things which are going on at the moment which may be
a huge help for you:

1. On Thursday, Jordan Hall is launching a course which
deals with not just selling one product, but with selling
a membership where you will get paid for many months to
come. This really is a ‘growing up’ product for Jordan
which in my opinion far surpasses anything that he has
ever done before.

He has just released a video for free where he goes
over:

- how to create your own sales process
- the idea of having continuity behind any process
- the power of Nickelmania
- the best products to sell
- why selling is better than giving (apart from the profit :) )

If you hate it when videos go slowly, then don’t worry
about this one as Jordan speaks really really fast!

To see more, go to:

Turbo Continuity

Once you have opted in to view the next video, go to:

http://www.connectwithben.com/jordan.asp

Where you can claim 5 PLR products by inputting the first
number which is on the page after the optin!

2. Mark Ling also has a product launch coming up. If you
are looking for a step-by-step guide on how to make
money as an affiliate then this has to be it. He leaves
nothing off the camera as he builds a site in front
of an audience which ends up making $500 a week!

If you are struggling, then you must check this out
on Thursday.

In the meantime, I recorded an interview with him
where he let out some of his niche marketing secrets.
I was quite amazed at some of the information he let
out.

It is free to download by clicking here.

A lot of it is about the product that he is releasing,
but he also gives on the call a strategy for creating
a profitable affiliate website which you really
shouldn’t miss.

3. Next Tuesday, one of my best friends online has
a massive launch happening. Alex Goad has come over
from the dark side of Black Hat SEO to have 6 Clickbank
successes over the last year.

He is someone who I learn an incredible amount from
and I would advise you to do the same. Even if you
have no intention to spend a penny (ever) on Internet
Marketing products, I would strongly advise you to sign
up to his prelaunch as he is giving a helluva lot of
information over for free.

Go to: Google Conquest to find out more.

4. Jacobo Benitez is launching Google Revenge today.
Following on from his previous two successes, Jacobo
has come out with a third product.

This is mainly aimed towards newbies, but there is
also one tactic in particular which will totally change
the way you think about affiliate marketing. I’m not
going to discuss it here as I have not yet used it,
but it works very strongly on the scarcity principle
and is not something that I have seen described before.

5. Last, but certainly not least (!) Vince Tan has
just released the Biggest Firesale. It is an opportunity
to download over 100 products which are currently
on sale by various top marketers. If you are looking
for a great bargain and enough material to last you
for…well years, go to:

Biggest Firesale Ever

Please leave below your opinion on anything that I
have said or what you would like me to write about in
the future. I am also currently making some more videos
to add to Project Archimedes, so if you would like to
see something added then please do let me know.

Best Wishes,

Ben Shaffer

PS. I am now totally off any hard sell tactics but want
to give you my straight up opinion. Is this what you
want from me?

  1. Lyn Says:

    Dear Ben,

You are one of the few guys I follow, and that is because you haven’t lost sight (yet!!) of the little guy. I have totally had it with the big boys, I get quite depressed with the “he made 30 grand in a week” stuff and delete them quickly these days.

I just want to make 3k in a month! Then I will fly.

So I love all the tips and the “low key” stuff.

Still pondering over Archimedes…. it’s not the money, it’s “can I (repeat, I) make it work”. I did try one of the web flipping products/services before, and just found it overwhelming and didn’t have the bottle to get started.

  2. Chas Lawrence Says:

Hi Ben, I think we have all had enough hard sell from the IM’s so just carry on as you are.

    Regards, CHAS

  3. Michael Mack Says:

    Hello Ben,

I am a happy new owner of Project Archimedes. I have learned a lot from your material. Can you demonstrate some examples of your first PA-type projects? What gave you the idea? How did you first implement it? What was your first website flip, etc? I’d be very interested in knowing about this empirical experience.

    thanks again,
    M Mack

  4. Graham Price Says:

I would like to echo Lyn’s comments with regard to Your content and “not forgetting the little Guy” - You are to be applauded Ben. I have been fultime online for the last Two Years and my background was a lifetime in sales. I quickly identified that if I wanted to get anywhere online that I should not try to duplicate my background experience with other’s. That would be virtually impossible not to say in a lot of cases undesireable :-) However methods and systems are very easy to teach and duplicate so I do believe that is the way to go. Kindest Regards, Graham Price.

  5. Bill Keidan Says:

    Thanks Ben,
very informative information - please keep me in the loop. I will be travelling shortly after 1st December 2008 and then ending up in New Zealand therefore better use my gmail address for future correspondence.

  6. Rick Says:

Thanks for the great articles links and info Ben.
I’m just getting started in the IM industry and aspire to have as informative a blog as yours.
I’m currrently weeding out all of the teaching that I can’t use and narrowing my focus to be able to learn and apply the best methods and philosophy that help others and in turn help me succceed in this rapidly changing info world.
All the best to you as you move forward with Project Archimedes.
